A second man has been arrested in a weekend shooting in Columbus that left one man dead and another injured.
Quinton Latrance Erby, 24, of No. 39 Christopher Drive, was charged with murder Tuesday. Erby was involved in the Saturday morning shooting that killed 24-year-old Joshua Richardson and injured Tevin Harris, according to investigators with the Columbus Police Department. Erby was also charged with aggravated assault for allegedly injuring Harris. His bond has not yet been set.
Devonte Jones, 20, has also been arrested for his role in the incident. He was released from the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on Monday on a $60,000 bond, according to jail records. Jones received a $50,000 bond for the murder charge and $10,000 for the aggravated assault charge. Justice Court Judge Chris Hemphill set the bond.
The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Cherry and Peach streets. Police responded and found an injured Harris. Richardson’s body was found hours later by his family in nearby bushes.
According to CPD Capt. Brent Swan, Erby fled the scene immediately after the shooting and passed a Mississippi Highway Patrolman at a speed of 90 mph and after a brief chase was arrested for fleeing. He was on probation at the time of his Saturday morning arrest for an armed robbery conviction. He was charged with the murder while in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
Swan declined to comment on a possible motive in the shooting, citing an ongoing investigation.
“It’s a complex case,” he said. “We’ve got a lot of variables we’re working through and we’re trying to manage this case in a very professional manner.”
