Columbus school officials would not comment Tuesday on whether a school employee charged with enticement of a child to meet for lustful purposes had been placed on paid leave.
Superintendent Edna McGill confirmed that Michael Jackson, the district’s public information officer and choral director at Columbus Middle School and Columbus High School, is still an employee of the Columbus Municipal School District. She would not comment further.
Jackson, 30, was arrested at his Gardenia Drive residence Sunday night by the Columbus Police Department and charged with enticement of a child to meet for sexual purposes. Jackson was released from the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on Monday night after posting a $5,000 bond, jail officials confirmed.
In an email to The Dispatch on Monday, Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen said a report was filed at the police department Friday afternoon that indicated Jackson “had sent text messages to a minor in an effort to seduce or solicit for purpose of engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”
The alleged victim in the case is a 17-year-old male student at Columbus High School, according to Don English, investigations commander with CPD.
McQueen said the police department and the school district are working together to ensure the safety of students.
Jackson has been employed by the district for seven years.
English said on Monday that the investigation is ongoing with the possibility of more victims.
