A Starkville woman who told police two men tried to rape her Monday night off Industrial Park Road was charged Wednesday with filing a false report.
Officers with the Starkville Police Department were dispatched Monday at 7:30 p.m. to Industrial Park Road and Old Highway 25 to investigate a report of an attempted rape. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Dominic Ellis, 31, whose last known address was 135 Sand Road, No. 98.
Ellis told police she was walking home from work on Industrial Park Road when two men in a passing vehicle stopped and offered her a ride. Ellis said when she turned down the ride the men exited the vehicle, assaulted her and attempted to rape her.
After further investigation, detectives discovered “numerous inconsistencies” in Ellis” story, as well as a lack of evidence at the alleged crime scene to corroborate her statement, SPD Detective Jimmie Thomas said Thursday. Ellis told police the incident happened about 1/10-mile from Old Highway 25.
Eventually, Ellis admitted the story was false and was charged with making a false report, Thomas said. Ellis recently was kicked out of a friend”s house and admitted she made up the rape allegation to gain their sympathy, Thomas said. She was released Wednesday on a $500 bond.
The false report was the second filed in the Starkville area this week.
A former Mississippi State University student told MSU police he was assaulted and robbed Sunday afternoon in a McCool Hall restroom. Throughout the course of the investigation, MSU detectives determined the story was not true and charged 28-year-old Kenneth Hood, of Starkville, with filing a false report.
