The Starkville Police Department is searching for three suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery Monday morning on Spring Street.
A man and a woman were at a Fourth of July party in the Caldwell Street area and left to go to the store, Starkville Police Department Detective Landon Stamps said. While at the store, they noticed a car with several occupants.
After the man and woman returned to the party, the same car from the store pulled up and a woman police believe was Kizzy Campbell, 28, stepped out. A man with dreadlocks also emerged from the vehicle, while an unidentified man remained inside, Stamps said.
The group claimed they were having car trouble, Stamps said. The man and woman who initially saw the vehicle at the grocery store helped the group put oil and water in the car, Stamps said.
Eventually, the vehicle and its occupants left the party, but when the male and female victims left to walk home Monday at about 2 a.m., they once again heard the engine of the vehicle from the store and the party, Stamps said. The man turned around and saw the vehicle approaching with its lights off, so he told his female companion to run.
The man in dreadlocks emerged from the vehicle and chased the pair on foot, Stamps said. His hand was “wrapped up” and he told the two victims he had a gun.
“He says, ”I have a gun. I”ll kill you,”” Stamps said.
The female kicked her purse under a vehicle in the area of Spring Street and Spruell Place, but the suspect grabbed it, got back in the vehicle with his fellow suspects and left, Stamps said. The victim”s purse was recovered later behind America”s Best Value Inn.
The Starkville Police Department is awaiting crime lab results on the DNA recovered from the purse and arrests are pending.
Police have issued an arrest warrant for Campbell on a charge of armed robbery and were still searching for her as of Friday. Her last known address was 1510 Harrison Road, Brooksville.
According to Stamps, police believe they know the identities of the other two suspects, but are not yet releasing their names and have not yet issued arrest warrants.
Stamps is urging the public to help locate Campbell and the remaining two suspects. Anyone with information can call the Starkville Police Department at 662-323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
