Three men were arrested and charged with burglary of a dwelling after authorities say they witnessed them taking jewelry and other items out of a Columbus residence.
On Wednesday, two narcotics agents — one from the Columbus Police Department, one from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office — were driving in the vicinity of 11th Avenue North when they saw a group of men loading jewelry, a TV and other items into a vehicle, which the officers suspected had been stolen in a residential burglary.
The agents discovered the men had stolen the property from an 11th Avenue North home. Officers detained three of the five suspects. Jamir Jefferson, 23, of 629 Lot Field Road, in Crawford, and Justin Brewer, 22, of 911 Shady Street, in Columbus, were both arrested and charged with burglary of a dwelling, as was a 17-year-old juvenile.
Officers are still searching for the suspects who fled on foot.
Investigators are also searching for at least one handgun taken during the burglary. Anyone with information is asked to call the Columbus Police Department at 662-244-3500 or the Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
CPD declined to identify the address where the burglary took place.
