Columbus police arrested two suspects Friday for allegedly stealing firearms from a Highway 45 North business.
Quincy Antonio Beard of 1814 11th Ave. N., and Shamor Lidell Billups of 2108 College St., both 23, are being held in Lowndes County Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of felony shoplifting and possession of a firearm by a felon. Both were on parole with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
A police department press release said officers responded at 11:05 a.m. to the shoplifting call in the 2000 block of Highway 45 North, where two suspects were reportedly trying to steal two firearms. Store employees had detained one suspect at the scene, the release said, while officers located and arrested the second later that day.
Police recovered both firearms.
CPD Capt. Brent Swan would not identify the business where the reported shoplifting took place.
Municipal Court Judge Marc Amos set both suspects’ bonds at $7,500.
