Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies took a man in custody following a three-hour standoff outside a home on Will Hairston Road in southern Lowndes County on Thursday.
No one was injured and no shots were fired during the standoff, which began just before 10 a.m., Sheriff Mike Arledge said. Four deputies attempted to serve a commitment order on an individual in the residence. The man then barricaded himself in the home.
LCSO deputies, along with members of the Columbus-Lowndes Combined Drug Task Force, responded to the scene. Arledge said a special response team and ambulance also responded after deputies became concerned there may have been weapons in the residence.
Authorities entered the home and took the man into custody without incident at about 1 p.m.
“Everybody’s safe,” Arledge said. “The officers are safe. The subject’s safe. Everything went good.”
The individual taken into custody is not facing criminal charges. Chief Deputy Marc Miley said he has been taken to a medical facility for treatment.
