Deputies with Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the homicide of a woman found in a partially burned mobile home west of Starkville on Wednesday night.
County Coroner Michael Hunt identified the victim as Joyce Bostick, 60. OCSO deputies found Bostick’s body in her Sykes Road residence while responding to a welfare concern call at 10:06 p.m., according to an OCSO press release.
Capt. Brett Watson told The Dispatch deputies are investigating the fire as arson.
The body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy, and Hunt said he could not yet reveal the cause of death.
A person of interest in the investigation is in OCSO custody on unrelated charges and is being held in the Oktibbeha County Jail, the release states. OCSO has not released the person’s name.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the MBI Crime Scene Unit and the State Fire Marshal’s Office are all assisting OCSO in the investigation.
