The days are numbered for Arbor Acres.
The upperclassman apartments built on the south end of Mississippi State University”s campus in the early 1980s will likely be torn down in July to make way for two new residence halls.
Dr. Ann Bailey, director of housing and residence life at MSU, said the school will receive bids later in June to demolish Arbor Acres and build the new dorms.
“You will see action on site in July starting somewhere between the 1st and the 15th,” said Bailey.
Because the project is in such an early stage, Bailey declined to estimate completion dates or a total cost for the demolition of Arbor Acres and construction of the dorms, which will be bid together. She did, however, say the new dorms will be “very similar to South Hall, which is right in front of them.”
South Hall was completed in August of last year for approximately $20 million, factoring in the surrounding infrastructure, parking, utilities, heating and cooling, etc.
The new residence halls will contain a total 700 beds. The dorms will be co-residential, with males on one side and females on the other and a common space in between.
