With the threat of hurricane-force winds blowing through Lowndes County this weekend, this year’s New Hope Festival has been postponed to July 5.
Organized by volunteer group New Hope Strong, the New Hope Festival will be condensed from a two-day event to a single, all-day festival and will coincide with New Hope’s Night of Worship, both of which will be held at New Hope High School.
Tony Hannah, president of New Hope Strong, said that although organizers were disappointed to postpone the event, they were hoping for an even larger turnout in July.
“We’re disappointed, but we figured safety of our participants and our vendors and all of our people coming out, we just knew that safety over putting it on would be well worth it,” Hannah said. “… Last year at Night of Worship, we estimated around 6,000, and so we’re hoping with the festival added to that in the mix, we’re hoping for around 15,000.”
Despite the four-month reschedule, Hannah said they won’t lose any vendors or attractions. Highlights for this year’s event include a 5K run, a car show, live music featuring Christian artists David Timms and Tonja Rose of Nashville and a fireworks display to close the night.
“We’re going to have a big concert blow out,” Hannah said. “It’s going to be a big deal. We just want our community to come out and have a good time”
