NOXUBEE COUNTY – A woman charged for the 2024 fatal shooting of Breanna Franklin, 23, is set to go on trial next week in Noxubee County Circuit Court.
Ciara Latham, 32, is scheduled to appear before a jury Monday in Judge Lee Howard’s courtroom, according to 16th Circuit Court District Attorney Scott Colom.
Latham was indicted for murder and aggravated assault in March after allegedly killing Franklin and assaulting a man with a firearm on July 6, 2024. Latham allegedly followed Franklin at about 2 a.m. to a parking lot near the Mississippi Department of Human Services building on Pearl Street in Macon and shot her in the head through the passenger side window of her car.
Later that morning, after receiving information by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation on Latham’s potential whereabouts, Columbus police officers responded to a residence on Sydney Loop where Latham was staying. A firearm, believed to be used in the alleged murder, and a vehicle were seized at the location.
Latham later turned herself in to MBI for questioning, after which she was arrested and charged.
Jury selection and opening arguments are slated to begin Monday, Colom said.
