A man accused of murder turned himself in to authorities Wednesday, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
Bobby Childs, Jr., 21, is charged with fatally shooting a man Tuesday at a residence on Jess Lyons Road.
Deputies responded to the scene about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Hawkins said, and when they arrived they found a man with gunshot wounds to his face and chest.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as Julius L. Wilson, 55, of Columbus.
Hawkins said Childs had allegedly been arguing with a female at the residence, who called Wilson, who was her uncle.
When he arrived he and Childs got into an argument, and Childs shot him.
Neither man lived there, Hawkins added, but Childs had been staying with a woman for several days.
Childs fled the scene in a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, Hawkins said, prompting the sheriff’s office to issue press and social media releases asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect prior to Childs turning himself in.
