A man is in custody after leading deputies on a chase and ramming a patrol car, according to a press release from Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
Tristin Manuel Saraiva, 23, of Caledonia, was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude and reckless driving, the press release said.
A deputy allegedly saw Saraiva, who was on a motorcycle, driving south in excess of 100 miles per hour near the intersection of Highway 45 and Land Road. Saraiva refused to pull over and hit the gas, reaching speeds as high as 135 mph.
Agents with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Special Tactics Investigative Narcotic Group happened to be in the area of Highway 45 and Bluecutt Road, and they stopped traffic at that intersection in an attempt to prevent an accident, the press release said.
Saraiva was weaving in and out between vehicles in both lanes, and as he approached the intersection, veered at a narcotics agent’s vehicle and crashed into it, according to the press release. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle with minor injuries, where he was treated and released.
He was then arrested and booked at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Bond had not been set by press time.
No deputies were injured.
