Authorities with the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit and the Columbus Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery at Motel 6 on Tuesday.
Amber Paige Ballard, 25, of 703 Waterworks Road, was arrested at the Traveler’s Deluxe Inn on The Island about 10 a.m. Thursday. Police say she and another suspect robbed a couple at gunpoint at the Motel 6 on Highway 45 North on Tuesday. Ballard allegedly choked the female victim during the robbery, according to Interim Police Chief Fred Shelton.
Ballard was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery, according to Shelton. Her bond was set at $75,000.
Shelton said the robbery reportedly occurred around 9 a.m. Tuesday but was not reported until approximately 11:30 a.m. that day. Ballard and another suspect allegedly went into Room 159 where the victims — a male and a female — were staying. Shelton said the victims knew the suspects, who are accused of taking more than $300 from them at gunpoint.
Police are still searching for the male suspect.
