The Butcher Shop in Columbus caught fire this morning and will remain closed through the holidays.
Officials with Columbus Fire & Rescue received the first call about 4:30 a.m. today, according to Anthony Colom, spokesperson with CFR. Six fire trucks and the Columbus Police Department responded.
Colom said early indications are that the blaze began in the back of the business. No cause has been determined, according to Colom.
There were no injuries.
CFR was still working to extinguish the blaze at 8 a.m. today.
The popular meat shop — it is located inside a 4,000 square foot building at 108 13th St. N., right off Main Street, and employs three people — has been in business more than 21 years.
Bill Mason, the owner, was at the scene this morning. He told The Dispatch that the shop, with Christmas just three days away, had roughly 250 holiday orders to finish this week. Unfortunately, they will not be filled.
“It’s not going to happen,” Mason said, apologizing to his customers. “I hope they understand.”
Mason said The Butcher Shop will definitely reopen when it can.
“We will be back,” he said.
