A Monroe County man was found dead in a creek Sunday evening after being missing for 10 days.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office found 63-year-old Warren M. Bowen in his car while investigating his disappearance. Bowen was last seen on July 6.
Cantrell said he and his deputies were in the White Rock Road area Sunday talking to Bowen’s mother about his disappearance. Cantrell sent a deputy down the road to talk to other area residents, and that deputy found the car.
“They said they heard a loud noise on the sixth of July,” Cantrell said. “He went down and looked at the creek and called me. There was a vehicle in the water in James Creek. We just started getting people there to help us and we got it out.”
Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley said Bowen, who is from Aberdeen, died from multiple trauma injuries he suffered when his car went off the road. Gurley, in an email, said an autopsy is not planned.
Cantrell said there does not appear to be any foul play in the case. He said further investigation depends on the family’s wishes.
“It’s completely up to the family,” he said. “This doesn’t appear to have any foul play. My call is that he got in a car wreck and got killed.”
