LOWNDES COUNTY – Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a Sunday crash involving a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office detective.
MHP responded to a two-vehicle crash at about 6 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 South and East Yorkville Road, Public Information Officer Trooper Bryant Flake told The Dispatch.
One driver involved in the crash was a detective with LCSO, who left the collision unscathed. The other driver sustained “moderate injuries” and was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Flake said he was unaware whether the detective was on duty during the crash.
MHP is investigating the cause of the accident, but Flake said there is currently no evidence to indicate impaired driving contributed.
“It is being investigated by us,” Flake said. “As far as who’s at fault, (and) everything like that … that’s what all the insurance (agencies) and everything (are for).”
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins did not respond to multiple calls or texts from The Dispatch before press time Monday.
