JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Education is seeking public comment on possible revisions to its English language arts and mathematics academic standards.
A website will be open until Sept. 15 for the public comment on possible changes. Any changes in the standards would be effective for the 2016-17 school year.
State Superintendent of Education Carey Wright says since the standards are now five years old, a periodic review and update is typical.
She says given the intense interest on the standards, the online portal will allow a broader forum for comments. She says participants must review each individual standard and propose changes.
Wright says a team will review the comments and make recommendations on any changes to the state Board of Education in December.
