Two hotels in Columbus are up for grabs.
The Wingate by Wyndham, 129 Brickerton St., will be up for auction April 26 through 28. The 80-room hotel is listed with Ten-X, an online real estate company. The bidding will start at $1.5 million. The Wingate was built in 1997, and according to Ten-X, recently underwent renovations, making the property a prime investment.
“The property offers investors a fantastic opportunity to purchase a performing Wingate by Wyndham in Columbus, Mississippi significantly below replacement cost,” the listing reads. “The absentee ownership provides substantial room for improvement, and the recent renovation should allow for minimal to no (property improvement plan) for the new owner.”
This marks at least the second hotel in the Columbus area that’s on the market right now. In August 2021, Holiday Inn Express at 2000 Sixth St. N. was listed by Hilco Real Estate. The 85-room hotel on nearly five acres is listed at just less than $9 million.
Also in Columbus, a woman is realizing her goal of owning a business.
One evening, a client asked Jessica Cuevas when she was going to open her own nail salon.
It’s been a dream she’s had for a while, and this year she finally decided to take that leap with her sister Michelle Hall. Together the duo opened Parlor House, a hair and nail salon, at 402 Wilkins Wise Road.
“I’ve been in the industry for 16 years, and Michelle has been in it for eight years,” Cuevas said. “I just started praying about it one day, and it all kind of fell into place. For years I wanted to open it and then COVID hit. … But I got the ball rolling and it just happened.”
Parlor House is open Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., by appointment only. Primarily, Cuevas said they offer manicures, pedicures and hair services. “It feels great to finally be a business owner,” Cuevas said. “There’s a lot of things we have in store that are coming soon.”
Moving to the medical industry, there’s a new family practice clinic in East Columbus. As of Wednesday, Cornerstone Medical Center, 111 Alabama St., is open.
The medical center is open Tuesday through Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cornerstone accepts most insurances and patients can book same-day appointments. For more information, call 662-570-4636.
The indoor children’s playground Kidz-n-Play is on the move. Literally. According to its social media, Kidz-n-Play closed its location on Highway 45 and will reopen in June near the Malco Movie Theater. Keep following Kidz-n-Play on social media for a reopening date.
Moving over to Starkville, massage therapist Tina Whitehead’s spa has moved locations.
Previously, Whitehead was located inside Restoration’s hair salon, but as her clientele grew she decided to branch out on her own.
Coming Home Massage and More is now located at 112 Willow Road. Folks can book therapeutic or Swedish massage appointments Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at tinamwhitehead.com.
“I just want to thank everyone who has been with me through this whole process,” Whitehead said. “They’ve been patient with me getting to my new space. … I just appreciate everyone hanging in there with me and continuing to make massages a very important part of their life and their health.”
It’s a big weekend for the Starkville community. The Starkville Farmers’ Market is hosting its opening weekend on Saturday 8-11 a.m. at Fire Station Park. This is a great opportunity to support your local farmers, artists, bakers and more. Don’t worry Columbus folks, the Hitching Lot will have its opening Farmer’s Market in mid-May.
