Lights, camera, selfie-mode and action.
There’s a new selfie studio open in downtown Columbus.
SNAP House MS, 411 Main St., officially opened Friday. Owners Janie Shields and Ashley Clark wanted to bring something a little different to Columbus that they had seen in larger cities.
“Ashley and I love taking pictures,” Shields said. “We love Columbus and we love the downtown area. We wanted to bring something fun to town and give people something to do.”
The selfie studio is pretty much that: a studio with various backdrops for clients to shoot photos, videos or live stream events on social media. The SNAP House is open for walk-ins Thursday 5-9 p.m., Friday 3-10 p.m., Saturday noon-10 p.m. and Sundays noon-6 p.m.
Social media influencers, shop owners and more can also come by appointment throughout the week as well.
Potential selfie aficionados can book one-hour sessions for $20. Those younger than 12 can book a session for $15.
Check out SNAP House MS on all social media platforms to check out backdrops and themes that will change seasonally.
Moving to Starkville, we have food news.
I know, guys, it’s been a minute, but we haven’t forgotten.
Walk-On’s Bistreaux is a go. The Louisiana sports bar franchise officially broke ground in Starkville on Monday. Walk-On’s, 996 Hwy. 12 E., will open tentatively by March near the LaQuinta Inn. Franchise owner Eddie Gant, along with his brother Alan, were both Mississippi State University students in the 1980s, and boy are they excited to be back.
“We bleed heavy maroon and we were both in Omaha for the National Championship,” Eddie said. “… We are excited about March. It’s coming at a great time, us coming off the heels of our first National Championship in baseball. You can imagine the excitement that’s going to be surrounding Mississippi State baseball in March and April. That gets us excited.”
Gant said though it’s been a long process with some hiccups, he’s excited the ground work has started. Get ready to get your cajun on for baseball season and keep an eye out for the new restaurant opening next year.
For now, though, we have a new food truck.
Blue Plate Mafia opened in Starkville in late August. Owner David Wilkerson, along with business partner Chris Walker, saw the success and growth in Starkville’s food truck circuit and decided to pull up and join the fleet.
Blue Plate Mafia is open Monday through Friday 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 201 Hwy. 12, by Designer Gallery. Menu items include your typical blue plate, southern specials like fried catfish, spaghetti, hamburger steak, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, French fries, baked beans and more.
Blue Plate Mafia is also open for private events. Starting Saturday, you’ll also find the food truck at The Junction on campus for all home football games.
“We’re really looking forward to (game day) and to working with the university,” Wilkerson said. “We look forward to providing a good service to the community and taking care of our clients and guests.”
Moving down Highway 12 just a bit. Starkville has a new furniture store.
Right next to Backstage Music, Rock Bottom Furniture opened in early August at 115 A Hwy. 12.
Check out Rock Bottom Furniture for mattresses, appliances, bedroom suites and more. Be sure to check out the new furniture store Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
