Rural King officials confirmed the farm supply store at 2308 Hwy. 45 will host its soft opening Sept. 18.
Less than a year after its October 2024 announcement, the retailer prepares to open its doors to customers. The Rural King representative said they plan to have the grand opening later this month, Sept. 26. According to previous Dispatch reporting, Rural King planned to invest $8 million into the 110,000 square-foot building vacated by K-mart in 2018. founded in 1960 and headquartered in Mattoon, Illinois, the company has 133 locations in 13 states, and this location is the first in Mississippi.
Also in Columbus, Wallace Brain and Spine hosted its ribbon cutting Tuesday at 102 Brickerton St. Clara Wallace Walker announced her new chiropractic clinic earlier this month on social media.
“At Wallace Brain and Spine, our mission is simple – to provide top-quality, patient-focused care that changes the way people experience healthcare,” her social media post reads. “We combine the best of chiropractic care, orthopedic rehabilitation and functional neurology care to create a cutting-edge rehab approach tailored just for you.”
The Columbus native added, “This is the city that raised me, and where my parents and brother lived. Their memory is what drives me, and it’s a true honor to be back home, serving the community that means so much to me.”
Clara wasn’t the only Walker with good news this week. Her husband, Hagan, announced his company Glo’s recent ranking in Fast Company’s Best Workplaces for Innovators. Fast Company is a business-focused magazine that ranks the most innovative companies, next big things in tech, brands that matter and more.
Glo ranked No. 2 on the 100-business list announced Tuesday. Walker co-founded Glo in 2015 for a Mississippi State class project, creating liquid-activated drink cubes. Now, the Starkville-based company creates sensory toys and is valued at $50 million.
“Much appreciation to our entire team – those that are current employees, as well as employees of the past,” Walker posted online. “You all helped grow this company to be number two on a list of some of the most well known companies in the world, and for that, thank you.”
It appears West Point has lost yet another restaurant. Rumors have been circulating online about the closure of McAlister’s Deli at 5576 US-45 Alt., and those whispers now seem to be confirmed. According to Google, the location is listed as “permanently closed,” and it has been removed from the list of Mississippi locations on the company’s official website. I’ve reached out to a representative for confirmation, but have not yet received a response.
McAlister’s had a relatively short stint in West Point, opening in 2020. Its closure marks the third major restaurant exit from the city in recent months. Connie’s Chicken closed in July after about a year in operation, while Checker’s – another recent addition to the food scene – shut down earlier this year after launching in 2021.
