The Columbus Rue 21 is slated to close next week.
Rue 21 announced its third bankruptcy which will shutter all 540 stores. The Starkville location on Highway 12 is already closed. The location at Columbus Place is currently slashing prices up to 70% off for the next week. The clothing company first opened in 1970 and all stores nationwide will close in the next few weeks.
Moving to downtown, Kids Cavern Clothing Co., 415 Main St., is officially closed.
The children’s apparel store first opened in Columbus in 2021. The building is completely cleaned out and ready for a new tenant.
Those downtown vacancies don’t last long. The Prom Shop, currently located at 110 Fifth St. S., is on its way to the 415 Main N. spot. Owner Blaine Walters said she decided to move for a larger retail floor space.
“We provide a fantastic selection of beautiful prom, pageant, and formal gowns,” Walters said.
He plans to open at the new location by August. The Prom Shop is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Moving right along, Breaux Bridge, 1207 Hwy. 45 N., will have a new parking lot soon. Work is almost complete, but the Cajun restaurant is still open for business.
Moving over to Starkville, construction has started on the new mixed-use development.
Framing is up at The Summit, 403 Russell St. The development will have retail space, along with one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums for sale.
