Prestige, a clothing apparel store, will leave Columbus Place within the next month.
Owner Sam Prestige has operated the clothing store for nearly 30 years in Columbus. Prestige said with the mall’s upgrades and increases in rent, he’s being forced to close his shop.
“The rent has gone up three times,” he said. “We have no choice, we have to leave.”
Though Prestige’s doors are closing in the mall, Prestige is hopeful to open another location somewhere else in town. Keep an eye out for more details.
Since November, Bealls, Cato, Claire’s and Prestige all announced their departure from the former Leigh Mall. That leaves Five Below, Mobi-Care, Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree, Planet Fitness, American Deli, City Gear, Hibbett Sports, and outparcels Trustmark and Hardee’s, as the shopping center’s remaining open stores. According to Dispatch reports, Columbus place has 37 spaces and only 10 will be occupied when Prestige closes its doors.
Hull Property Group’s owner James Hull said at a Jan. 30 press conference the company intends to continue to “de-mall” the property.
While the developer finished converting the side facing Highway 45 into a retail strip last summer, it plans to demolish the remaining indoor enclosed mall area by this summer – converting 125,000 square feet for outward facing tenants facing Highway 82. The company is casting a wide net for the space, including medical, institutional or retail use, he said, as it looks for new tenants.
Also in Columbus, we have a grand reopening down Highway 45.
Executive Clothing and Sideline Sports, now located at 3910 Hwy. 45 N., will celebrate its new storefront noon-2 p.m. Saturday with refreshments, door prizes and more.
Executive Clothing and Sideline Sports is a clothing apparel store that includes athletic and sports apparel. The store has been around for more than 15 years, but the new location now offers bulk printing and embroidery contracts.
“We are excited about our new location,” owner Joe Baldwin said in a statement. “Come out and let us celebrate our new locations.”
Heading over to Starkville, there’s a newly opened psychiatric clinic.
State of Mind Psychiatry, 12183 MS-182, opened this month at Professional Park by Canon Motors.
Co-owners Cade Henderson and Kerri Whittington are both nurse practitioners who decided to branch out and start their own practice to assist patients with psychiatric medicine management. Henderson said they help patients with various disorders including but not limited to anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and panic disorder.
“We wanted to open our own business to have a smaller and more personal space,” Henderson said. “We can spend more time with all our patients.”
Potential patients can reach out to State of Mind for questions and more information at (662) 268-7100.
Also in Starkville, it’s time for Starkville Stride, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership’s annual step competition. This is one of my favorite competitions, probably because my team has been undefeated since we started.
The Starkville Stride challenge will be March 1 through April 12 and you can register until Feb. 28 at midnight. This is a great way to get your steps in, have some friendly competition and most likely lose to my team. For more information visit: starkville.org/the-partnership/programs-events/starkville-stride/
