A West Point restaurant is opening a second location in Starkville.
OMG Grill House will open by February at the former 1883 Smokehouse on Highway 12.
Restaurant owner TA Amos first opened the West Point location in March 2020.
“(Business) has been good, especially during the pandemic with our curbside services,” Amos said. “The opportunity presented itself to open one in Starkville. We’ve done really well in West Point. In fact, we’d like to start franchising.”
Amos described OMG as the “fine dining of fast food.” The menu includes rib tips, hamburgers, wings, fried catfish and more. Once open, folks can try OMG Monday through Thursday 11 a.m.-10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
You can already start to see the renovations taking place, and a sign has already been hoisted. Keep an eye out for further updates for the new restaurant!
Moving to downtown, Spring Street Cigars is nearly open. The former Mugshot building at Main and Dr. Douglas L. Conner Drive is almost completely renovated with a year-end soft opening on Dec. 31. What a way to bring in the new year.
The cigar lounge owner John Higgins said he’s excited to share his passion for hand-rolled cigars with the downtown area.
“The city has been just entirely supportive of us,” Higgins said. “I can’t say enough great things about Starkville. We want to make this city proud for letting us come here. They’ve been a great partner to us.”
In addition to selling cigars, Spring Street will also have three lounge bars for folks to enjoy a nice cigar while watching a ballgame or even sitting in a nice leather chair by the fireplace.
“It’s about the experience,” Higgins said. “It’s a nice place to hangout for anyone who enjoys cigars or beer.”
Speaking of beer, if cigars aren’t your forte, Spring Street will have its own micro-brewery and offer it’s first brewed beer at the start of the year. Folks can peruse, purchase cigars and check out the new renovations Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 1-6 p.m.
If lighting a cigar isn’t your style, there’s a new candle company coming to town for you to light.
J & M Entwined, a company from Philadelphia, are retiring from the candle making business. Lucky for folks in the Golden Triangle who love their candles, Starkville company Dunkington will be taking over its candle operations.
Starting in January, the art and jewelry store will start selling Dunkington hand-poured candles. Store owner, Josh Herrington, said he’s excited to expand the company downtown.
“It just seemed to fit with what we do,” he said. “Starkville doesn’t really have something like this either.”
Not only will Dunkington sell the candles in-store for customers, the company will also be pouring candles for wholesale purchases.
Moving to West Point, there’s a new store open next to Jubilation’s Coffee House.
Farmhouse Amish Furniture, 11980 Hwy. 45 Alt., had its grand opening last week.
The store is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Folks can find handmade furniture, wallets, ornaments, pottery, toys and more. Be sure to check out the new store in West Point.
