Nearly a year ago, Arnoldo Camarena started selling tortas, tacos, burritos and other Mexican food dishes from a bright yellow food truck in Starkville.
Now, La Paisanita has expanded into a full restaurant at 106 Avenue of Patriots. Hoping to open in the next couple of weeks, you may have noticed upgrades and renovations to the former grillhouse. After more than two years, the building has sat vacant since OMG Grillhouse closed its doors. It’s good to see another restaurant take its place.
I may be the minority, but I don’t care if we have more than a dozen Mexican restaurants in town: I’d eat chips and salsa every single day if my pants would let me. For those curious, I spent some time counting the Mexican restaurants in the region. If I did my taco math correctly, La Paisanita will be the 10th Mexican restaurant in Starkville, 11th if you count Taco Bell.
Lately, times have been tough, and folks out there are just looking for ways to spread happiness. That brings us to Taylor Brown in Starkville with her new business, Every Time Co. It offers various gift boxes sent throughout the Starkville, Columbus and Caledonia communities.
“Our heart behind starting this business is to help people be the hands and feet of Jesus in their own circle of influence,” Brown said. “… Our prayer is that these gift boxes will be a physical, tangible reminder of God’s love to those who receive them. We are just a vessel, and our aim is to help people minister to those around them in personal and intentional ways.”
You can check out the gift box sets on Every Time Co.’s Facebook and Instagram, which include seasonal specials, get-well packages, gluten-free options and more.
Also in Starkville, the new Community Bank location is officially open. The 120-year-old bank first started in Forest and has expanded throughout the Southern region. Be sure to check out the new bank 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Fridays. Located at 403 Russell St. in The Summit, the 1,925-square-foot office offers a full suite of banking services, including deposit and lending solutions, ATMs and financial planning.
We’ve got business moves coming from every side. Mississippi Asthma and Allergy Clinic is on the move. Currently located on Hospital Road, the Starkville allergy location will open Monday at their new spot at 521 S. Montgomery St., right behind CVS.
“Our new location is bigger, newer and better able to serve our community,” a social media post read.
Also in town, the Starkville Area Arts Council announced its new temporary location. The art and entertainment nonprofit is currently housed in the upstairs space of the Starkville Community Theatre at 108 E. Main St.
“This is our temporary space while we continue working to find what we hope will be our forever home,” a social media post reads.
Check out the new space 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Moving over to Columbus, we have a new law office open house and ribbon cutting.
Lindsay Clemons and Associates celebrates its new location 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at 320 Park Creek Drive.
See y’all next week!
