According to Mississippi’s recent health reports, the Magnolia State consistently ranks near the bottom for physical health. Reimage Fitness, a Columbus LLC formed in March, is working to address the area’s health and fitness struggles.
Salem Gibson, Reimagine Fitness’ director of operations, said the group was formed by three to four investors, including Antwann Richardson.
“We are excited because we saw such a need in our area,” Gibson said. “… We believe in building a strong, powerful presence in Columbus.”
Gibson said Reimagine Fitness has acquired three gyms in the city, Core Fitness, Fitness Factor and most recently W8 RM, previously known as FitnessTime.
“We’re working on community outreach, bettering the area, partnering with schools, athletes and trying to help kids get healthy,” Gibson added. “We’re creating healthier and happier kids.”
Moving to downtown, Brandon Shaw, local Realtor with Crye Leike, purchased a building on Main Street to make exterior and interior renovations.
The building consists of three rental spaces: 1222, 1226 and 1234 Main St. Shaw is going to continue renting those spaces out but is improving the function and appearance of the property, including removing the awning, repainting, concreting the back parking lot, adding additional lighting and adding curb appeal. On the interior, Shaw said he’ll make general improvements such as painting and updated lighting. Working alongside the Historic Preservation Commission, Shaw hopes to get everything approved and started this month.
“I’d like to give a shoutout to Councilman Pierre Beard – he’s been a huge help in coordinating efforts with the city on this project,” Shaw said. “At the end of the day, my goal is to help make Columbus a better place to live and work. As a Realtor, I’ve seen firsthand how much of an impact a first impression can have on someone visiting and relocating here. If we all invest back into our community, we can make it an even better place for everyone.”
School will be letting out soon and that means it’s time for Midweek at the Malco. Malco announced that the Columbus Cinema is a new location this year for the summer screenings of children’s movies. From June 4 to July 30, each Wednesday at 10 a.m., kids can watch their favorite films, such as “Shrek,” “The Wild Robot,” “The Land Before Time” and “Kung Fu Panda” 4 for just $3 plus tax.
Also in Columbus, there are plenty of ways to pass the time. Stephanie Swanigan is hosting new line dance lessons 6-7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at 135 Gardner Boulevard. You can pay $5 at the door with cash, Cash App, PayPal or Venmo.
“I love dancing, and so many people have been asking me to teach them the latest line dances,” she said. “…I decided to have a leap of faith and give this a try.”
