The Book Mart on East Main Street is ready for its next chapter.
After holding its final week of sales this week, Lauren Ann Cooper, owner of L.A. Green downtown, announced she purchased the building and her boutique will move there this spring.
“We will take up one side and lease the other and upstairs,” Cooper posted on social media. “We can’t wait for you to see our updates and vision come to life.”
Cooper added that former Book Mart owner Carolyn Abadie has been a friend and fellow business owner for years. Cooper hopes to continue Abadie’s staple in downtown.
“I hope to honor (her family) and our community with this next chapter,” the social media post read.
I tried reaching out to Cooper, but did not hear back from her before press time.
Triangle Trading Posts, 13070 Hwy. 182, is having its grand opening next month 4 p.m. Nov. 7.
Folks can peruse the new creative marketplace for artists, makers and various vendors. From looking at the website, it looks like vendors span the spectrum, including furniture, cards, pottery, clothing, decorations and more.
Just outside Starkville, a new pet groomer has opened.
Doggy Style Baths and Grooms, 202 Scott Ave. in Mathiston, is hosting its grand opening from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Hosting a “meet the groomer” event, Doggy Style Baths and Grooms will have free nail clippings, trick-or-treat bags for kids and dogs and more. Make sure you and your little ones (dogs or humans) dress up in their best costumes and check out the new groomer on the block.
Moving to Columbus, Beef O’Brady’s is officially underway in the Golden Triangle. The dirt work has started, and according to the Columbus building office, all building plans have been approved.
About a year ago, Vikaskumar Patel purchased two acres of the former Ceco plant lot at 2404 Hwy. 45. Patel also owns the Columbus Dairy Queen in Columbus.
I couldn’t reach Patel, but I did get in touch with Beef O’Brady’s contractor Joe Bostick.
Bostick said the restaurant will be a little more than 5,200 square feet with an additional 1,100 square feet of covered patio outside. There will also be an additional 2,600 square feet for an additional tenant.
“We are talking to a franchise about the tenant space now,” Bostick said. “I can’t say who yet.”
The incoming restaurant has a wide range of pub classics including burgers, wings, wraps, and even surf and turf. Jim Mellody opened the first Beef O’Brady’s in 1985 as a neighborhood pub in Florida. The franchise has since expanded, with nearly 150 locations in 21 states.
No stranger to the Golden Triangle, the pub-style restaurant had a brief stint in Starkville before franchise owners decided to branch out with their own restaurant. For the GT folks who missed the Irish pub fare, Bostick said he hopes the Columbus location will be finished by July.
