Allegro Plaza, 3600 Bluecutt Road, in Columbus continues its expansion with an obstetrics and gynecology team.
With the addition, the third floor of the plaza is currently under renovation. In the meantime, you can see the new OBGYN team at 2225 Fifth St. N. starting Monday.
Also in Columbus, the former Regions bank on Alabama Street will soon become another financial institution.
According to Building Official Kenneth Wiegel, Mutual Credit Union’s building permit should be issued this week for new construction in East Columbus. Chartered nearly 100 years ago, MCU is Mississippi’s oldest credit union and has more than 23,000 active members and more than $300 million in assets. Clara Kilman, MCU vice president of marketing, confirmed the new branch will tentatively open by next June.
There’s a new smoke shop in town.
The Goat, 1513 Hwy. 45, will open Independence Day, from 9 a.m. to midnight. The shop sells cigars, vapes and other tobacco products.
Moving over to Starkville, we’ve got more business news on the block.
A loan processing office for The Bank of Kilmichael, at 112 S. Lafayette St., will have its grand opening July 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Bank of Kilmichael first opened 120 years ago, but this is its first Starkville branch.
The Starkville Area Arts Council announced its new location. Moving just down the road, SAAC will start sharing a space with Proof Bakery at 109 W. Main St.
“Proof Bakery will be our temporary home until we find our forever location,” a SAAC Facebook post reads. “This decision wasn’t easy, but it was for the best. Don’t worry though, our regular events and programming will continue as usual so be on the lookout for our next round of art markets, exhibitions, and workshops.”
SAAC should be fully moved into its new digs by this fall.
Handyman Rentals and Party Place on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive are both up for sale. According to its social media, the businesses are for sale but must be relocated to different buildings. Handyman Rentals and Party Place first opened in 1982, offering jackhammers, fans, generators, pressure washers, party tents, tables, dunking booths, inflatables and more for rent.
Over to West Point now. Unfortunately, the Save-A-Lot grocery store, located at 411 W. Main St., shuttered just last week. Save-A-Lot, a discount supermarket chain, was founded in 1977 in Illinois. Losing a grocery store option isn’t ideal, but there is some good news for Point City.
Foodland, 23565 Hwy. 50, has reopened under new ownership. Nimesh Patel, who owns the Exxon gas station near CVS, reopened the store as Mahadev Super Market-Foodland. The Patels posted on Facebook about the store’s reopening and thanked their employees for helping with their success.
“Thanks to all the West Point people to give me support,” Patel posted online. “… I will bring back your grocery store like before, maybe better than that. Trust Me and support me like always you do.”
