An Alabama man died Sunday in a head on-collision just after 6 p.m., Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant wrote in a text to The Dispatch.
Richard Wayne Humphreys, 69, was traveling east on Steens-Vernon Road when his Nissan Sentra crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a GMC Sierra pickup traveling west, Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins told The Dispatch.
Humphreys was pronounced dead at the scene. Merchant said a passenger riding in the pickup was also injured in the crash and airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.
Hawkins said there is no evidence of impaired driving at this time, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
