A 19-year-old person of interest in connection with an early morning Wednesday homicide has turned himself in to Columbus police.
Traylen Rodsean Colvin of Columbus turned himself in just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, city Public Information Officer Joe Dillon said.
Police responded at 12:20 a.m. to a disturbance call at 202 11th Ave. S., Dillon said. Dispatchers reported hearing gunshots in the background during the 911 call.
When officers arrived they found the victim, identified as Jarion Trentel Griffin, 26, dead of a gunshot wound inside an apartment.
Dillon told The Dispatch Wednesday afternoon he wasn’t sure whether Colvin and Griffin knew each other. Police have not identified Colvin as the shooter.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Griffin’s body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Pearl for an autopsy.
“We urge the public to come forward and provide any information that may assist us in bringing justice to the victim and closure to their family or loved ones,” said Chief Joseph Daughtry in a press release.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151 or use the P3 smartphone app. Tipsters are kept anonymous, and information that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
This is the second homicide this year in Columbus. The first was a shooting that killed Devan Thompson, 33 and wounded four others.
Undra Lamorris Williams, 30, was arrested and charged with murder.
