A man was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for possession of child pornography and illegal reentry into the United States following his 2024 arrest in Lowndes County.
Miguel Angel Sierra-Torreblanca, 40, was sentenced Tuesday to 180 months in prison by the U.S. District Court of Northern Mississippi for possession of child pornography and an additional 24 months for illegal reentry into the U.S. after having previously been deported in 2015, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Sierra-Torreblanca was arrested Oct. 31, 2024 in Lowndes County after sheriff’s deputies received warrants for his arrest from Charleston County, South Carolina.
Deputies obtained search warrants for two of his phones, both of which contained hundreds of images and videos of children, infants and toddlers being sexually abused.
Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said officers believe the images and videos were taken of children in South Carolina. Sierra-Torreblanca was living in the county under an alias at the time of his arrest, he said.
Following his arrest, Sierra-Torreblanca admitted to being part of a transnational group which shared the media, the press release said.
Sierra-Torreblanca must register as a sex offender and will serve seven years of supervised release. Upon the completion of his sentence, Sierra-Torreblanca will be surrendered to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement for deportation.
