A Columbus man was arrested for allegedly shooting a man Wednesday in Crawford, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
Adam Malone, 44, of Columbus, is charged with one count of aggravated assault, Hawkins said.
Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Columbus Police Department officers responded to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle at about 5:30 p.m. after a seriously injured man arrived in the emergency room with multiple gunshot wounds, Hawkins said.
The victim was in his car when he was shot, Hawkins said. The shooting happened on Highway 245 right at the Crawford town limits.
The victim drove about two miles into Noxubee County under his own power before pulling over and calling for help, Hawkins said. He was taken to BMH-GT by ambulance.
He was in critical condition but is now stable.
The victim was still medicated and unable to answer investigators’ questions, Hawkins said, but the suspect and victim know each other.
“The shooting was not random, and there is no danger to the community,” Hawkins said.
The gun allegedly used in the shooting was also recovered.
Hawkins encouraged anyone with any information about the case to contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 800-530-7151 or by using the P3 Tips smartphone app.
Tips are anonymous, and information that leads to an arrest is eligible for a cash reward.
