The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding someone who fired shots into a car over the weekend, according to Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
On New Year’s Day deputies responded to the 500 block of Gatlin Road in reference to a possible gunshot victim, Hawkins said. When deputies arrived they found a male victim bleeding from the face.
The victim had not actually been shot but had allegedly been injured in a fight at Yo Bar on Bluecutt Road in Columbus, Hawkins said. The victim had gotten in a fight at the club and called his mother to come pick him up and drive him home.
The mother picked up the victim and they were on the way home when a car pulled up behind them and started shooting at them near the intersection of Jess Lyons Road and Shrinewood Drive, Hawkins said.
The vehicle with the victims sped up to try to get away, but the driver lost control and hit a mailbox on Gatlin Road, Hawkins said.
Investigators found 9 mm shell casings nearby, Hawkins said, but nobody in the car was wounded.
“We’re not sure how many of the victim’s injures were caused by the fight and how many from the accident,” Hawkins said. “We’ve got a name of someone who was supposedly involved in the argument, but we don’t know who did the shooting.”
Anyone with information about this case can call LCSO at (662) 328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151, or use the P3 smartphone app. Tipsters will always remain anonymous, and are eligible for a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest.
