A Crawford man was arrested for burglary after a woman said she woke up to find him standing in her bedroom early Monday morning.
Travis Malone, 42, is charged with burglary of a dwelling in connection to the incident, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release.
The victim woke up at about 2 a.m. Monday after being startled by a noise inside her house. As she woke up, she allegedly saw Malone standing in the doorway of her dark bedroom.
The woman screamed, prompting the suspect to run from the residence. The victim ran to her door and watched the man run across her yard, and upon recognizing him as her neighbor, called 911.
An investigation revealed Malone’s criminal history with the county included multiple burglaries and sexual offenses.
He has been booked in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on five previous occasions, facing seven misdemeanor charges and nine felony charges, including burglary of a dwelling, sexual battery and drug charges, among others.
Malone is currently on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections after he pleaded guilty in August 2024 to burglary of a dwelling stemming from a 2023 arrest. He was wearing an ankle monitor tracking his location at the time of the most recent incident.
Over the last 10 years, LCSO has received eight reports from Crawford residents involving Malone allegedly entering homes during the night, with some incidents involving unwanted physical contact.
Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said the case highlights the “danger repeat offenders pose to our community.”
“Our deputies responded quickly, and thanks to the victim’s courage and immediate action, Malone is once again in custody,” Hawkins said in the press release. “We will continue working with prosecutors to ensure this individual is held accountable for his repeated criminal behavior.”
Malone is being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center while awaiting his initial court appearance, and a hold has been placed on him for MDOC.
