A convicted sex offender has been arrested for statutory rape.
Randy Scott Watkins, 24, of 30 Thompson Cove in Lowndes County, was arrested Monday by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department. According to investigator Ryan Rickert, the alleged victim in the case is under the age of 16.
After an investigation, Watkins was arrested at the Hibachi Bar and Grill on Highway 45 in Columbus and charged with one count of statutory rape.
Watkins was convicted of fondling in 2009. He was sentenced to five years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
He is currently in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting bond.
