A traffic accident occurred on Hughes Road off Highway 69 on Wednesday morning when a vehicle being pursued by Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies ran off the road and collided with a tree.
The driver of the vehicle, Stephanie Glover, was not seriously injured and was transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center after being checked out by an ambulance at the scene, according to LCSO Capt. Ryan Rickert.
Rickert said Glover was driving a vehicle connected with a string of burglaries in the New Hope area. A deputy spotted the vehicle on South Pickensville Road about 11:20 a.m. and initiated a stop. Glover, according to Rickert, did not stop, instead leading several law enforcement officers on a chase along back roads before she hit a tree on Hughes Road.
There were no serious injuries, Rickert said. Glover told deputies at the scene a child had been thrown from her vehicle during the chase, but officers involved said they had not seen anything. Officers did a thorough search of roads Glover had been down, Rickert said, and concluded that no child had been thrown from the car.
Glover was charged with felony fleeing and eluding.
