Ashlynd King has joined The Dispatch as its digital/lifestyles editor.
Her first day was Monday.
In her role, King will help coordinate the newspaper’s digital efforts, overseeing day-to-day content on the website, plus social media and email newsletters. She will also coordinate content for the weekly Food and Lifestyles pages.
A native Mississippian, King was born in Jackson, raised in Oxford and attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing with minors in nonprofits studies and biology.
She moved to Columbus in 2020, working stints remotely as head of social media for Paladin Digital Marketing, which represented 18 certified financial planners; and digital marketing director for Fort Worth, Texas-based Parker PLLC Attorneys at Law. Before joining The Dispatch, she worked this spring and summer at Walton’s Greenhouse.
“Mostly, I come from a background of nonprofit work and marketing, and in those roles I always loved writing and telling stories,” King said. “Despite my love for creative writing, professional journalism is an entirely new world for me – one I’m very excited to experience and explore. Outside of work, I enjoy being part of the Lowndes County Master Gardeners, and you’ll frequently find me at one of Columbus’ downtown haunts with my friends. Karaoke at the Princess, anyone?”
Managing Editor Zack Plair said King has been a welcome addition to the newsroom.
“The first thing you notice about Ashlynd is her energy,” Plair said. “Quickly behind that, you see her passion, her love for the community and her curiosity for learning more about it. She’s a talented, capable person, and her contributions will serve our readers well.”
