Three of the five candidates seeking judgeship in the 16th Circuit Court District will be speaking at the monthly meeting of the Starkville Tea Party Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church.
The meeting starts at 3 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Fellowship Baptist Church is located at 1491 Frye Road, Starkville.
In addition to speaking, the candidates will take questions from the audience. People from Oktibbeha, Lowndes, Clay, and Noxubee counties are encouraged to attend so they can make an informed and intelligent vote on November 2.
Many people do not know that on November 2, they will be voting on a 3rd circuit court judge for the 16th Circuit Court District, which includes Oktibbeha, Lowndes, Clay, and Noxubee Counties. The Legislature added this position a few years ago and set the election for this November.
The 3rd judge must come from either Noxubee or Clay county, but will hear cases in all four counties. Lee Coleman, Bob Marshall and Nebra Porter are candidates for election to that position, which is called Position 3. All three have been invited to speak at the meeting Saturday. Of the three, only Bob Marshall is committed to attend.
Also speaking at the event will be incumbent Judge Jim Kitchens, a Lowndes County resident, and Oktibbeha County resident William Starks, his opponent for circuit court judge, Position 1. Circuit Court Judge Lee Howard, who is unopposed for Position 2, will also be on the ballot November 2.
