WEST POINT – North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point now offers a low-cost heart screening to help identify the risk for heart disease. In honor of National Heart Month, the screening will be offered at a discount rate of $50 for those who request an appointment in February.
Open to patients age 35 and older, the screening includes three tests to gauge your cardiac risk. The screening includes a coronary calcium score which, using a CT scan, looks for specks of calcium in the walls of heart arteries, an indicator of early heart disease; an EKG (Electrocardiogram) which measures the electrical activity of the heart; and a lipid profile which measures levels for total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides using a blood test.
Patients will receive a detailed description of the results by mail. The screening will regularly be offered for $95. Insurance is not filed for the low-cost heart screening.
