Cadence Harvey has joined The Dispatch newsroom staff as a general assignment reporter.
In her role, Harvey will cover news, features and enterprise stories across the Golden Triangle. Her first day was Monday.
A Georgia native, Harvey graduated in May from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in communication and a concentration in print and digital journalism. During her final semester, she served as managing editor for MSU’s student newspaper, The Reflector, and she was named the College of Communication’s Print and Digital Student of the Year for 2024.
At The Dispatch, she plans to continue growing as both a reporter and storyteller, leaning on the maxim that “every person has a story.”
“I wanted to join The Dispatch to get reconnected with my community,” Harvey said. “…. Journalism has given me so many opportunities to connect with people all over the Golden Triangle, and that is something I am so appreciative of. I love walking through the store or down the street and bumping into people I’ve met through this profession, people I never would have met otherwise.”
Managing Editor Zack Plair said Harvey has made an immediate impact in the newsroom.
“She’s only been here a week, but she handles the work like she’s done it for years,” Plair said. “Her versatility and willingness to tackle anything we’ve thrown at her so far is impressive. She’s been a great addition to our team.”
