BAY ST. LOUIS — A Hancock County jury has acquitted Waveland Mayor Tommy Longo of embezzlement.
The jury returned the verdict Friday.
Longo was arrested on Jan. 22 on charges that he allegedly used his city-issued Fuelman card for his personal vehicle on numerous occasions from between September 2008 and August 2009. The total amount involved was $1,116, according to a state auditor”s report.
Defense attorneys claimed that Longo used his personal car on city business.
Prosecutors argued Longo converted the fuel into personal use the second he put it into his vehicle.
