Mississippi University for Women went into lockdown Saturday after a shooting was reported east of the campus.
The Columbus Police Department responded to reports of gunshots at about 8:20 p.m. near the 1700 block of Bell Avenue. Soon after, The W Alert system sent a campus wide message to initiate lockdown procedures.
Bryan Moore, public information officer for the Columbus Police Department, told The Dispatch there were no injuries, only property damage. The department is still investigating, Moore said, and CPD had no suspects as of Sunday afternoon.
The W lifted the lockdown around 9:15 p.m. with a second message asking that all suspicious activity be reported to The W Police or 911.
