OXFORD – A second Columbus man is headed to federal prison for possessing a firearm with a machine-gun conversion device outside a convenience store in 2023.
Da’Quavious Robertson, 21, and Demontrell Lowe, 26, pleaded guilty to possessing a machine gun in the U.S. District Court of Northern Mississippi. Judge Michael P. Mills sentenced Robertson on Saturday to 37 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to a Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office press release. Lowe was sentenced in July to 30 months in prison, also followed by three years of supervised release.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested the two suspects near the Airbase Texaco on Highway 45 in April 2023, The Dispatch reported at the time. Deputies in the area noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and a search of the vehicle revealed two Glock 9mm handguns outfitted with “Glock switches,” a device that converts the handguns into fully automatic machine guns.
One of the Glocks had been reported stolen from Neshoba County.
Under federal law, a firearm with a machine gun conversion device is considered a machine gun.
