If you were to ask me where I used to hang out as a kid back home in Keller, Texas, I would reminisce about the times I spent at Zaxby’s devouring chicken and Texas toast with my friends.
That said, I am happy to report that the chicken restaurant will open a new location in West Point at 5621 Hwy. 45 N. Alt
Dimension Construction Contractor Phil Durity told me he and his team began the project in July by putting up a fence and adding dirt to raise the ground. Since September, he has been installing a concrete slab and is now preparing to build out the parking lot and put up the building by November.
After that, he said the project will conclude in December and open around the same time.
“Our company has done more than 400 locations for Zaxby’s,” Durity said. “We are hoping to put up the restaurant’s frame by Oct. 30, and we will start on the parking lot this weekend.”
Zaxby’s already has 21 locations in Mississippi, with one on Highway 45 North in Columbus and another on Highway 12 in Starkville.
If that update isn’t your speed, perhaps you’d like to slow down and enjoy a nice cigar.
In Starkville, Akeem Richardson announced via Facebook in September that he was looking for clients to rent out his airstream-based cigar lounge, Ashed Out Cigars. After securing his first event this past weekend, he hopes others will book his services for festivals, private events and weddings.
“I experienced cigars for the first time in 2014 while on active duty in the Navy,” Richardson said. “There’s a certain relaxation and camaraderie about it for me. It elevates conversations and creates a great environment. I wanted to make that feeling mobile so that I can be able to reach areas that otherwise didn’t have it.”
The airstream trailer can fit at least six people for an indoor smoke, and he also provides a serving bar for outdoor events, complete with chairs and a table. Customers can purchase their cigars of choice ahead of time and during the events.
For those interested in booking his services, Richardson said they can reach out to him via the company’s Facebook page.
Moving back to West Point, TBT Butcher Shop and Seafood Market, located at 58 Hwy. 45 N. Alt. opened Friday.
Owner Artie Sutherland took to the business’ Facebook page to announce the opening and said his team had their sleeves up and were “ready to go.”
Business hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Here is wishing them success.
Finally, my friends, it would appear Josh Hartley, owner of Milestone Investment Group in Columbus, will be moving from his original location at 510 Lincoln St. to right across from the Mississippi University for Women at 1123 College St.
Hartley said that after 18 years at his original location, he feels it’s time to move his financial planning business closer to some of his clientele in the downtown area.
“The neighborhood that I’m moving into just has a nice character to it,” he said. “It just fits with the kind of business I want to have.”
Before that can happen, though, Hartley said he first needs to replace the roof and make electrical upgrades and a few other renovations before the location is ready for business. He hopes to open in the new location by January 2024.
“It’s an old building that was built in 1960, and it needs to be repaired,” he said. “We’re not planning to make any big changes to the look or the structure, but we need to fix what’s there. I really want to clean it up and give it a fresh coat of paint.”
Well, folks, that’s all for now. Make sure to check back in next week for more goings on in business.
