Well, folks, you really can’t say no to Mexican food. At least, I can’t.
With that said, El Rodeo, a new Mexican restaurant located at 665 Hwy. 12 W in Starkville, has finished its buildout and could now open any day, Operations Manager Elizabeth Ornelas said.
El Rodeo began its buildout in December. Ornelas told me the restaurant has finished the final work needed before turning the grills on but is waiting on a few short items before turning the opening sign on.
“The interior renovation is completed and all equipment is in place for us to open,” Ornelas said. “Our team is waiting on the final business permits.”
I, for one, can’t wait for Mexican cuisine to finally come to the Triangle Crossing Shopping Center.
Next up, we move to Columbus for an update on Park Place Boutique and Salon, which has sold the boutique section of its business which will open Friday at 413 Main St.
Owner Gail Stevens said after 10 years of operating both her salon and boutique, located at 415 Main St., she has decided to sell the retail side to longtime employee Addie Grace Mims.
“It was never intended to be a full-time business for me,” Stevens said. “Somehow or another, I ended up there six days a week. This started with us kind of wanting to remodel, and then Addie asked if she could take over the boutique from me.”
Stevens said she and Mims agreed in June for her to operate the boutique and combine the businesses at the new location.
“She has made the transition easier, and (the store) is beautiful,” Stevens said. “She’s young. She’s got great ideas. She’s just going to bring great things for Park Place.”
The new location will open Friday, but shoppers can still order online or come by to say hello, Stevens said.
But Columbus isn’t the only place seeing some boutique shopping coming to town.
Alexia Henig, owner of Splurge, a women’s boutique and fashion store, opened a second location at 201 Academy Road, next to Oby’s in Starkville July 11.
Henig said she opened her first location in Montgomery back in 2013, but she always had a soft spot for Starkville since going to school at Mississippi State University. When a friend told her about a space opening up earlier this year, she jumped at it.
“I couldn’t get it out of my head, and within a month I had signed the lease,” Henig said. “We had a great turnout on opening day. I can’t even say how many people showed up. We just have so many people who are supportive of us.”
The business features Mississippi State University apparel, women’s fashion, jewelry, accessories such as sunglasses and belts, shoes and even candles.
Henig added she hopes her store will bring more middle-aged options for women in Starkville, but also wants people to come by for the cute boutique clothes so many college students are fond of.
Finally, my amazing friends, a new event venue has opened in Starkville, and it might just remind you of the times you spent at the family farm.
The Barn Venue, an event space built on a former farm, opened in early July at 448 Daffodil Lane, owner Traci Hannan said.
Hannan said in a Facebook post last week the business also plans to make more additions to the venue but didn’t want to say what they are just yet.
The venue is already booked through the fall, but people looking for the right spot for a wedding, party or any other gathering can schedule them by visiting its website or Facebook page for more information.
Well, folks, that’s all for now. Make sure to check back in next week for more goings on in business.
