Gather the Crock-Pot fanatics and put on your mittens, y’all. It’s the holiday shopping season and the Golden Triangle is rumbling with Black Friday deals and seasonal shopping sprees.
Shopping locally is always the best bet. It keeps money in our community and benefits us all. Tomorrow’s paper contains the Shopping Guide, a great resource to point you in the right direction for gifts and stocking stuffers.
In the guide, you can find the perfect oil changing kit at Adventure ATV in West Point, Poinsettias and jingle bells at Busy Bee Nursery and Gift Shoppe in Macon, toy trucks at Village Center in Starkville, a three-piece living room set at Rock Bottom Furniture in Columbus and so much more all over the Golden Triangle.
On the big-box side, Walmart, in typical fashion, has a slew of deals already available online. The store will open bright and early at 6 a.m. on Friday, after closing on Thanksgiving Day. The Walmart Black Friday ads are packed with hi-tech deals, including an Apple Watch for $149, an Xbox X for $500 and the Playstation 5 for $550.
Next up, Ashley Home Store will open Friday at 10 a.m., kicking off the day with 30-percent off on sofa sets until 1 p.m., then lowering it to 25-percent off until 3 p.m. and 22-percent off until the close of business. Customers can also save as much as $500 on certain mattress sets and receive a $300 gift card with the purchase.
Although many stores are closing for Thanksgiving, Dollar General will open Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. It will offer “buy one get one 75-percent off” all toys, and you can save 50 percent on holiday decorations such as artificial trees, lights, toppers, tree skirts and ornaments.
Burke’s Outlet in Columbus and Beall’s in Starkville will open at 7 a.m. on Friday, where you can find luggage for $24, scooters for $50 and toys for the kids ranging from $14 to $30.
Ulta has had its Black Friday deals since Sunday. Customers can receive up to 50-percent off for items ranging from hair irons to full-body thickening lotion.
For all my fellow crafters here in the Golden Triangle, Michaels will have holiday deals today through Sunday, featuring 20-percent off all regular purchases. You can also find discounted pre-lit Christmas trees for $100 off the regular price. If the colder weather keeps you inside this holiday season, I’m sure you’ll find something at Michaels to keep you occupied.
My family has never been big on the sporting event after Thanksgiving dinner, but for all my athletic enthusiasts out there, Academy Sports and Outdoors in Starkville will be open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday. You’ll find 50-percent off on treadmills and certain mountain bike brands, 30 percent off Oakley sunglasses and up to 40-percent off on game tables.
In the spirit of the holiday season, Main Street Director Barbara Bigelow is encouraging our local shoppers to remember all small business owners this weekend for Small Business Saturday.
“It’s just a wonderful time to support local and small businesses,” Bigelow said. “Shopping locally and shopping small does for our community. It’s a great economic boost.”
In Starkville, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership is hosting a Black Friday Bonanza with deals going on throughout the city.
With too many savings to handle, shoppers will find discounts on clothes, restaurant gift cards and more throughout the city.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the holiday season is also a time for giving and appreciating what we all love most about family, our friends and the communities we call home. By sharing that love with our local businesses, we show them how much we appreciate the 5 a.m. grinders and the late-night store clerks. It’s also important to remember the spirit of the holidays. It’s Thanksgiving, and we should all show just a little bit of love. Happy Thanksgiving, y’all. I’ll see you next week with more goings on in business.
