A routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust Monday when Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies discovered 14 kilograms of illegal drugs.
Daryl Dewayne Crowden, 54, of Jacksonville, Florida, is charged with aggravated trafficking of cocaine and aggravated trafficking of fentanyl.
At about 9:25 a.m. Monday, deputies stopped a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox on Highway 82 for a traffic violation. Probable cause led deputies to search the vehicle, where they discovered seven kilograms each of cocaine and fentanyl.
Crowden is being held at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance in court.
Agents from the Madison Police Department, Rankin/Madison Interdiction Team and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics assisted with the case, the press release said.
