ABERDEEN – A former Lee County deputy has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for stealing cash from people”s wallets during traffic stops.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock on Wednesday gave Michael Shane Minich the maximum penalty on four misdemeanor counts of depriving citizens of their civil rights under color of law.
He pleaded guilty in April to taking money from four different individuals, all of whom were Hispanic.
Aycock also ordered him to pay $2,810 restitution to the victims.
