Seven members of the Starkville High School Educators Rising chapter traveled to Orlando, Florida in June to compete at the organization’s national conference and student competition. Three SHS students earned top ten honors in their competition events.
Zoie Williams, 11th grader, earned eighth place in K-3 Children’s Literature. Kylee Tomlinson, 10th grader, received second place in Exploring Non-Core Subject Teachers. SHS Class of 2023 graduate, Jada Harris earned fifth place in Lesson Planning and Delivery CTE. The students qualified for national competition based on earning statewide honors.
Educators Rising is a grass-roots national organization with local school chapters whose mission is to help schools and communities build an emerging workforce of highly skilled educators by guiding students on a path through high school and higher education to the classroom with experience and essential skills.
The SHS Educators Rising chapter is part of the Academic Houses at Starkville High School Educator Preparation pathway, led by 2023 Mississippi Teacher of the Year Finalist, April Dill. The curriculum is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in education after high school, and includes coursework and project-based learning in classroom management, lesson planning and real-world experiences in Starkville Oktibbeha School District classrooms alongside veteran teachers.
