JACKSON – Several Columbus students served in the Mississippi Senate as the legislative session wraps up. Pages generally run errands for officials and House staff.
Jonathan Ross, a junior, is the son of Latonia Johnson and attends Columbus High School.
“Listening to debates about bills in the chamber, working with senators and senior pages and experiencing a formal protest in front of the building all made for an eventful and insightful week,” Ross said of his experience.
Junior Collin Moore attends Columbus High School and is the son of Melissa Moore.
“I enjoyed the debates, working with the senators, taking pictures with the governor and meeting new people,” he said.
Senior Allison Krieger, daughter of Colin and Desiree Krieger, attends Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. She enjoyed listening to Senate debates and negotiations.
“Learning how my Senate is organized and operates has been incredibly informative, and I have gained an even greater appreciation for everything they do,” Krieger said.
Dena Brook Madison attends Heritage Academy and is the daughter of Stacy and Heather Madison. She said the week was one of the best and most rewarding experiences of her life.
“I have always been interested in politics and wanted to learn more but never knew where to start,” she said. “This week, I was fortunate to sit in on Senate sessions, connect with senators and fellow pages and get a glimpse of how our laws are made and enforced. This opportunity is something I will always cherish and be grateful for!”
